Accommodations for High School & College Students

In order for older students to obtain reasonable accommodations, such as extra time allowance for exams, a current psycho-educational test and learning disability diagnosis is required.  In some cases, a previous diagnosis along with documentation showing the student received accommodations during middle and high school -either through an IEP or Section 504 Plan, might also be required. It is important to ask your guidance counselor what the exact requirements are.

Students with learning disabilities may be entitled to reasonable accommodations for standardized examinations, as mandated by IDEA and Section 504. Before students with disabilities can take the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Advanced Placement® Exams with accommodations — such as extended time or the use of a computer — their request for accommodations must be approved by Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)Click here for detailed information about accommodations in college.  You may also visit College Board for an updated guide.
